dear poems,
in this episode, i’m still sitting on the magical carpet of my brother’s music studio. my brother and i dive into the myth of the “real man”, how violence between men is more accepted than love between men (shocking!), and why the endless “men are trash” vs. “not all men” debate feels like it’s missing the point. i also open up about why, as a transmasculine person, i struggle to say “men are trash”. we explore what it really takes to change society away from patriarchy, sexism in hip-hop and rap, and the difference between desperate hope vs. just hope. to close, we share the poems we wrote for this episode, offering a reflection on masculinity, change, and care. the underlying question remains: what can responsible masculinity look like?
you’ll be better able to follow along, if you listen to the first part first.
